Over the years I began to play this word game with the kids at church every Thanksgiving by getting them to repeat “Gobble-S-U” with me faster and faster until they realized they were actually saying “God bless you”. I finally decided it deserved to be a song, which I wrote in 2009 and sang in Children’s Church that year.

Teresa and I recorded this home studio version in the fall of 2010. I created the music backing track using an amazing software program called Band-in-a-Box. We included this song in our first Facebook Live concert on 11/21/21, and then created this fun video using the excerpt footage from the concert.

We hope you share this video with the kiddos in your life, especially during this Thanksgiving season! It’s fun watching and singing along any time of the year!

GOBBLE-S-U (Lyrics)

Spoken Intro:

Hey (Teresa), if you were a turkey, how would you say “God Bless You”?

That’s easy, just repeat after me “Gobble” (Gobble), “S” (S), “U” (U)

Now say it with me, faster each time:

Gobble-S-U, Gobble-S-U, Gobble-S-U, Gobble-S-U Hey, I have an idea, let’s just sing it!

Gobble-S-U, Gobble-S-U Because His Word is true Gobble-S-U, Gobble-S-U

When you do what He says you should do, woh!

Gobble-S-U, Gobble-S-U

Can’t always see with your eyes Gobble- S-U, Gobble-S-U Sometimes such a surprise, woo!

G – O – double B – L – E – S – U (repeat) Other spoken lines:

“Hey guys, I think I’m gonna sneeze!” Ah – ah – achoo!

God bless you! God bless you!

Ending:

“Did you know God loves you so much He could just eat you up!” Gobble, gobble, gobble

Gobble, gobble
